REDONDO BEACH, California - The evening was lit by a full moon on June 14 here at the Redondo Beach Performing Arts Center. Inside, the laughter of the crowd was non-stop as Fe de los Reyes remarked in a comedic way on how Filipinos always say “Oooookay lang yon!” (It’s okay) on whatever is going on whether good or bad, and when she shared her own personal experience here in America on her show entitled “IndeFEndence ‘day!”.
She also brought more joy when she sang her amazing and latest songs after her old hits.
Guest stars, Ms. Joey Albert and Bernardo Bernardo, and of course Fe’s superb performances made the evening a night to remember.
Bernardo Bernardo gave an unending delivery of jokes. Then the 1980’s never fading hit singer Ms. Joey Albert together with her two extraordinary back-up singers brought the audience to memory lane. To this date, Ms. Albert’s songs are still heard in radio stations in the Philippines, and also in some movies. Her songs have been covered by numerous ‘Generation X’ bands in Manila; her CDs are sold in the Philippines, Canada and here in the US.
Co-producer Joey Quinto, publisher of California Journal For Filipino Americans, who was introduced by his daughter Carlette, started the show by thanking the corporate sponsors of the show namely, Wells Fargo Bank, State Farm Insurance, and U.S. Bank. Also, he pointed out that there are about 1 million Filipinos in California that create multi-billion dollar earnings and spending a year, thus it is worth doing business with the Filipino community.
Quinto added: “For the corporations who have not tapped the Filipino market yet, we invite you to do business with us and get a share in the multi-billion dollar opportunity.”
“Entertaining, captivating and nostalgic,” were the remarks heard from many of the audience. Even staffers of the Redondo Beach Performing Arts Center commented that they have never seen a show with ample audience participation.
Prior to the finale, an attendee named Josh volunteered to dance with Fe; they both amazed the audience with their synchronized and astonishing dance style.
The crowd loved the songs of Fe de los Reyes, Joey Albert and Bernardo Bernardo. The general comment of the audience after the show was: “With the comedy acts of Fe de los Reyes and Bernardo Bernardo, we have never laughed this loud and this long for quite sometime now; we were all ecstatic to hear Joey Albert sing again. It was a fabulously and totally entertaining show.”
The show ended with the rendition of the song “Dancing Queen,” featuring Bernardo Bernardo as the dancing queen.
