US Congressional Hearing on Philippine Land Grabbing

Wasteful Spending of Taxpayers' Money Must Stop!

PHL Land Grabbing Cited at U.S. Congressional Hearing

The Philippines has received $500 million in grants from the US Foreign Funding which come from American taxpayers. Hence, it is imperative that the Philippines follow the guidelines of the U.S. Foreign Funding such as rule of law, respect of property rights, transparency, government accountability, and good governance, among others.

If the Philippines would continue not to follow the guidelines, then the US should give conditions on grants, in particular, on the next compact funding. Otherwise, it would be a wasteful spending of American taxpayers’ money.

U.S. Rep. Matt Salmon (R-AZ), chairman of the Asia and the Pacific Subcommittee of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, chaired by U.S. Rep. Ed Royce (R-CA), convened a Foreign Affairs Congressional Field Hearing on Property Rights in Southeast Asia on Friday, August 21, 2015 at the campus of California State Polytechnic University (Cal Poly), Pomona to examine the impact of land grabbing in Southeast Asia.
